لما تلاقينا على سفح رامة

When we met on the hill,
I saw her cheeks lined red,
and her hands painted,
“Already married?” I wept;
“Never!” She shook her head;

“When you left, I cried
As tears burned
Their way down;
And my hands caught the fire”

And so I saw
The ground beneath her feet:
It was as we both felt:
Droughty and faint.

ولما تلاقينا على سفح رامة
وجدت بنان العامرية أحمرا

فقلت خضبت الكف على فراقنا
قالت معاذ الله ذلك ما جرى

ولكنني لما وجدتك راحلا
بكيت دما حتى بللت به الثرى

مسحت بأطراف البنان مدامعي
فصار خضابا في اليدين كما ترى
